A sculptural interpretation of extracellular vesicles and the unseen exchange of information between cells.

About description

The Space Between Two is a plaster cast triptych informed by scientific research into extracellular vesicles and the microscopic processes that enable cell to cell communication. The visual language of the work draws from imagery commonly associated with medical illustration and microscopic observation, offering a material interpretation of biological forms typically encountered only through scientific tools.

Once dismissed as cellular waste, extracellular vesicles are now understood as critical messengers that transport information throughout the body. This project reflects that shift in understanding by capturing the likeness of these structures and the spaces they occupy. Relief cast surfaces incorporate striated patterns formed from recycled literary documents sourced from the Translational Genomic Research Institute, embedding scientific and textual material directly into the work. Through this process, the piece renders visible an otherwise imperceptible biological exchange.
